If you have musculoskeletal pain that is not severe or disabling and lasts just a few days, it makes sense to give the problem a reasonable chance to be resolved. But sometimes pain in the joints, muscles, or bones is severe and persists for more than a few days. At that point, you should see a rheumatologist.
Rheumatologists are expertly trained to do the detective work necessary to discover the cause of swelling and pain.
Many types of rheumatic diseases are not easily identified in the early stages. But an early diagnosis is important, as some musculoskeletal disorders respond best to treatment in the early stages of the disease. Rheumatology has changed dramatically over the last decade. There are many new treatment options for rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic conditions that can help you live a normal lifestyle and prevent disability.
Ekaterina Soforo, M.D., is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles, and bones. She specializes in the management of more than 100 autoimmune and rheumatic conditions, including:
- Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Osteoarthritis
- Back Pain
- Certain Autoimmune Diseases
- Musculoskeletal Pain Disorders
Her goal is to not only treat rheumatoid conditions, but help prevent disability, offer coping mechanisms, provide behavioral therapy for improving quality of life, prescribe medication regimes, and recommend rehabilitative functions. She believes that patient education is one of the most important factors in patient-doctor relationships and involves her patients in the decision making about their disease management.
